It’s Easter and this is one of the rare times when Orthodox Easter coincides with the usual Christian Easter. Because it is a lunar festival, and the Orthodox Christians churches primarily follow the Julian calendar, while Western churches use the Gregorian calendar, the date of the first full moon after the equinox can be several weeks different. These days in our secular society Easter has become for many people a very welcome extra long weekend. For those who celebrate this most holy of religious periods, best wishes. For everybody else, don’t overeat and stay safe.
The news is full of Donald Trump and his trade war. I’d love to be able to ignore it all and get on with my renovations and writing but sometimes it all becomes too much.
Remember the apparently ill-conceived tariffs? We all had a good laugh about slapping 29% tariffs on Norfolk Island, Heard Island and the Macdonald Islands. None of them export anything to the US. And then, of course, the tariffs were removed to allow people to rethink. When the tariffs were applied the share markets tanked. When they came off, the share markets soared. So if you had the capital to buy up shares when the market tanked, you could make an absolute killing when the markets went up again. This isn’t my idea – I heard it somewhere. But I can’t stop thinking about it. Was the move deliberate? If so, it’s pretty easy to come up with a list of people who may have benefited.
Renovations are in full swing, the house is full of dust. I can’t wait till it’s all finished when I’ll have to do a serious clean and polish. Until it all starts again when the en-suite is renovated. But that won’t be for a few weeks.
On the writing front, The Dragon’s Hoard is nearly finished. By that I mean the first draft. It will need some serious editing. Fortunately, I like editing.
Meanwhile, here’s a very old picture of the twelve apostles in Victoria
