I’m pleased to announce that the new house now has solar hot water and solar panels. We enjoyed solar at our previous house and these days it’s even more important to be able to reduce power costs. Despite living in a country with an abundance of quality coal, natural gas, and uranium, household power prices have increased significantly in the last couple of years. This is because the clowns in Canberra are sticking to the notion that 24/7 reliable power can be provided by sun, wind, pumped hydro, and batteries. This despite the fact that other countries have realised that it can’t be done. They’ve gone back to coal-fired and nuclear power stations to back up solar and wind – which is what we should be doing.
I’ve started doing some things in the garden, cutting back bushes that are too large for the space they’re in. As a result, I’ve found a number of smaller plants that gave a huge sigh of relief. I also discovered that this plant, pictured below, is classed as an environmental weed, so I’ve pulled it out and murdered the root stock. It’s pretty, but I can replace it with a salvia or something. And getting it out meant the agapanthus and the roses it was smothering have a chance to do their thing.
I’m starting to get some ideas to proceed with my stalled Work in Progress. It’s always good to find myself having chats with my characters at 2am. I also got inspired to create a new cover for The Admiral and the Rebel. I think it gives a much better feel for what the book is about. I hope readers agree. The old cover used two AI-created characters on a NASA photo. The one on the right is an AI-created scene. I think it captures the conflicted relationship between the two characters extremely well.
