At last I’m allowed to tell you! One of my stories has been accepted for this year’s Pets in Space collection. (Bounce bounce bounce)
This is Pets in Space’s ninth year. Each limited-edition volume is a collection of about ten science fiction romance stories with a pet as one of the main characters. Over the years we’ve seen all sorts of interesting beasties, some alien critters, cute robots, some ordinary-looking cats and dogs and mice – though maybe with some extra smarts. Every story is brand new and you’ll get all flavours according to the author. Some are steamy, some aren’t. Some are part of a series – or at least take place within a series. Some are space opera, some are not.
And it’s all for a great cause. 10% of pre-orders and the first month’s orders will go to Hero dogs, a wonderful charity that trains service dogs for veterans and first responders. So, you’ll be supporting a worthwhile charity while you immerse yourself in a reading experience. Bear in mind, though, each Pets in Space volume is only available for a short time – about five months, so get it while you can.
Three years ago, I was lucky enough to be included amongst the authors in Pets in Space 6. My story was The Thunder Egg which has subsequently been released as a stand-alone novella. Little Neyru was an alien creature. Her egg was stolen and sold to a mild-mannered professor at a market. And the rest is… here.
This year’s story, The President’s Daughter, stars a big feline-like beast called Maahes. He looks a lot like a jaguar or a leopard, a medium sized solitary hunter that hails from the jungles of Santara. In keeping with the charity Pets in Space supports, Maahes is a companion animal for a lady who has suffered post-traumatic stress.
Pets in Space 9 will be available for pre-order on 27th August. Put it in your diary. I’ll post a link when I have one.
