New Release Trapped: A SciFi Convict Romance

Today Alison Aimes is my guest, introducing her new release Trapped: A SciFi Convict Romance (Book One in the Condemned Series). I asked her why she chose to write about a prison plant.

Honestly, I know it sounds suspect, but the idea for this story came to me in a dream. I woke up with a hazy sense of a prison planet and a woman trapped there without a way out From there my imagination just took off. I had so much fun wondering ‘what if?’ with this particular scenario…. What if a woman crashed on a hostile planet? What if that planet was filled with ruthless criminals? What if her only hope for survival was one of the convicts, a hardened man with a questionable past? What would she be willing to do to save herself? What would he be prepared to take? The answers ended up being action-packed and scorching hot. Especially as all those ‘what ifs’ led to a story that begins with a transactional deal for sex in return for protection and a scenario where the hero holds more of the power and control. But exploring how that changed—how a prisoner who’s become more animalistic than man rediscovers his humanity and a woman finds her soul mate on the unlikeliest of places—was pure joy to write.

Please welcome Lea Kirk and her new novel “Prophecy”

ProphecyHello all! My name is Lea Kirk, and I am crazy-thrilled that Greta has asked me to be a guest on her blog today.

My debut book, Prophecy, is a near future sci-fi romance involving alien invaders, soul mates, and, of course, an ancient prophecy. It will be unleashed upon the unsuspecting world on January 12, 2016. Today I’m going to share with you ten things about Prophecy that next to no one knows.

  1. I began writing Prophecy in high school in the early 1980’s. I picked it up again three years ago after a fever induced dream.
  2. My hero, Gryf, was inspired by a blue-skinned, white-haired, Japanese cartoon character I watched as a kid. I can’t even remember that character’s name, or the name of the cartoon, but I think he may have been the villain.
  3. In the updated version of the story, the invaders are green-skinned aliens whose average height is 10.5 feet. In the original story, they were fifty-feet tall!
  4. My heroine’s name was originally Alexis, and she was way too chipper, even for me. She’s a lot more grounded now, and has been renamed Alexandra.
  5. I cannot find any of my spiral notebooks containing the original, handwritten manuscript. (sad face)
  6. Thirty years ago, the story was only going to be one book. Two and a half years ago, the heroine’s brother, Nick, wanted his own story told. And that’s how the Prophecy Series got started.
  7. In the original story, Nick’s name was Jason.
  8. The Prophecy Series will definitely be at least three books, and potentially as many as five books. All can be read as stand-alone books, but I recommend reading Prophecy first as an introduction to this world.
  9. There are also a variety of short stories and novelettes waiting in the wings.
  10. I suspect my husband is secretly jealous of Gryf because he intentionally mispronounces the character’s name. (Grife, Grief, etc.)

It was a pleasure being here today and sharing some little known facts about Prophecy. I hope you enjoy reading Alexandra and Gryf’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it. I welcome you to visit my website, Facebook, and/or Twitter.

Thank you for having me, Greta!

About Lea Kirk

Lea KirkLea Kirk loves to transport her readers to other worlds with her romances of science fiction and time travel. Her fascination with science fiction began at six years old when her dad introduced her to the original Star Trek TV series. She fell in love with the show, and was even known to run through her parents’ house wearing the tunic top of her red knit pantsuit and her white go-go boots pretending to be Lieutenant Uhura. By nine years old she knew she wanted to be a writer, and in her teens she read her first romance and was hooked.

She lives in Northern California with her wonderful hubby of twenty-five years and their five kids (aka, the nerd herd). She’s also proud of her seven times great grandson. Apparently her stories will serve as the inspiration for James T. to join Star Fleet Academy. She learned this in the 1980’s when James sought out her counsel on where to find a pair of humpback whales.

New Release – Grand Master’s Pawn #sfrom #sfrb

Today, I’m pleased to host fellow author Aurora Springer who will introduce her new book, Grand Master’s Pawn. For this post, she’s provided an exclusive – an interview with THE GRAND MASTER HIMSELF!

GrandMastersPawnFinalGRAND MASTER’S PAWN.

Blurb

A thousand years in the future, wars and portal failures disturb the fringes of the galaxy. On Terra, twenty-two year old Violet Hunter seems an ordinary student of the Space Academy, who dreams of exploring unknown planets. She applies to serve as the pawn of one of the twelve Grand Masters, although her hidden talent of empathy makes her ineligible. Violet has defied the prohibition against psychics for half her life. Why should she stop now?

The Grand Master with the griffin avatar selected the girl with the star-shaped birthmark in spite of her father’s dire prophesy. He is suspicious about his disobedient pawn, yet he cannot deny the success of her missions to strange planets where she finds more than he expected.

Violet seeks the truth about the mysterious Grand Masters. Who or what are they? Do they threaten or benefit civilization? And, what is the connection to her father’s death twenty years ago? While searching for answers, Violet does the unthinkable. She makes a bargain with her obnoxious Grand Master and challenges him to meet her face to face, risking her secret to discover his purpose. She plunges into an impossible love and a world of intrigues. The vicious conflicts of the Grand Masters propel her into flight from a terrible enemy and a desperate search for allies to save her new found love.

Interview with the Grand Master

A stellar good day to our viewers! I’m Dan Murray of the Galactic Network bringing you an exclusive interview with one of the twelve Grand Masters. The black-uniformed guards have opened the iron gates to let me into the black marble Council Hall. A furry alien with six legs beckons from the inner door and leads me along a corridor to a door marked with the symbol of a griffin. The alien’s long ears twitch and it squeaks, “Wait inside for Grand Master.”

The room is dark. Peering round, I see a stone statue of a griffin at one side. Suddenly, the eyes glow blue. The Grand Master is present. Tapping my mike, I check my list of questions and begin.

Dan: “Grand Master, it is a great privilege to interview you. Please tell us a bit about yourself.”

Grand Master: “I am a Grand Master!” A rush of air accompanies his deep voice and my hair stands on end.

Dan: “Er, do you have a name?”

Grand Master: “You may call me the Griffin.”

Dan: “Why don’t you appear in person?”

Grand Master: “Fool, it’s too dangerous! Did no one tell you? Exposure to my power is deadly.”

Dan: “Violet Hunter is your new pawn. Why did you select her?”

Grand Master: “She has excellent qualifications and an interesting pedigree.”

Dan: “Do you mean her father? Frank Hunter died twenty years ago.”

Grand Master: “He was murdered. No culprit was identified.”

Dan: “Were you sorry for his daughter?”

Grand Master: “Why should I feel sorrow? Her father was clairvoyant, although my little pawn has no record of psychic talent. She looks like a pixie with those big green eyes. At the selection, she seemed to look straight at me. Impossible! We have impenetrable shields.”

Dan: “Is she a valuable pawn?”

Grand Master: “She’s impudent and disobedient! Remarkably, in spite of her foolish risks, her missions are successful.”

Dan: “What is the goal of your missions?”

Grand Master: “No more questions!” His thunderous voice echoes through the room, the blue glow vanishes from the stone griffin’s eyes, and a blast of wind smashes me against the wall. My interview is over. I grope through the darkness to the door. His pawn is a brave woman to stand up to him. He sounded almost human when he spoke of her. Who knows the Grand Masters’ true nature? He might be an alien or an artificial intelligence.

Morgan’s Return – a sneak preview

picture of cover of Morgan's ReturnI’m on the last lap of preparing Morgan’s Return for publication. Just a few, nerve-wracking, spine-tingling tweaks to go.

Here’s the blurb

When you delve into ancient history you never know what strange forces you might unleash.

When Morgan Selwood and Admiral Ashkar Ravindra travel to Morgan’s Human Coalition to learn more about the origin of Ravindra’s people, their relationship is soon sorely tested. Morgan is amongst her own people and Ravindra is overprotective and insecure, afraid of losing her. But not everyone is keen to welcome Morgan home, not when they’d gone to all that trouble to get rid of her in the first place. Soon Morgan and Ravindra have a rogue Supertech on their trail with only one goal – kill Selwood.

Together, Morgan and Ravindra follow a tenuous trail back into humanity’s past, to the time historians call the Conflagration. But what begins as an innocent archaeological investigation escalates into a deadly peril for both humans and Manesai, when Morgan and Ravindra are thrust into the middle of an unexpected conflict. And that rogue Supertech’s still out there, itching for revenge.

And here’s a tiny excerpt.

Morgan and Ravindra’s ship is stopped and searched when they arrive at their first Coalition planet. Here, they are talking to the commander of the boarding party.

“You’re with a Coromandel admiral?”
She chuckled. “You know what they say? Join the Star Fleet and see the planets? Well, I did. We met when I was on leave a year or two ago. He offered me a job when I got out. And it really isn’t any of your business.”
To his credit, the man laughed. “If the docking fees fall through, you won’t be going anywhere. But I guess you know that.”
The other three troopers, still anonymous behind their helmets, joined their leader, their armored footfalls loud in the confines of the ship. He gestured the troopers to the airlock. “You run a tight ship… Admiral. Enjoy your stay on Iniciara.”
He stepped back into the airlock. Morgan slapped a hand on the hatch release.
Ravindra turned to Morgan, and raised his eyebrows. She would understand.
She shook her head. “No surveillance. They checked the holds and all the cabins. I wish I knew what they were really looking for.” She let out a breath. “We still have to get through Customs.”
“Would they recognize you for what you are?”
“A Supertech? No. They linked to my implant, of course, but the other piece of hardware in my head is hidden unless I want to advertise.”
“Well then. We have nothing to hide. We really are just tourists.” Ravindra used his sanvad to contact Davaskar. “Take her in, Captain.”
